HEYDAY MURAL

Background

HeyDay is a Vietnamese-owned small bakery that recently acquired its first location at Core PDX Food Cart pod. The owner of HeyDay, Lisa, reached out to me to paint a mural to highlight the diversity of where HeyDay sits - on SE 82nd Avenue (South East Clackamas - where Pho Oregon, HK Cafe, and many other iconic spots are). We wanted to make it a collaborative event to invite locals and anyone to join to finish the mural and called it “Community Paint Day”!

  • Role: Mural Artist, Event Planner

I had the opportunity to embark on an exciting and fulfilling journey with the Heyday Mural project, which marked my first foray into the world of public mural art. This project presented a unique set of challenges and opportunities, as I was given full art direction control and the chance to bring my creative vision to life. One of the highlights of the project was the Community Paint Day, which turned out to be a resounding success with over 65 people in attendance, including my Nike coworkers, friends from university, fans of Heyday's creations, and curious locals who stumbled upon the event. It was an incredible experience to see the mural come to life with the collaborative effort of the community.

As a lifelong dream to paint a public mural, this project was particularly meaningful to me. It allowed me to push the boundaries of my artistic abilities, experiment with different techniques, and create a visual masterpiece that would leave a lasting impact on the Heyday Athletic Club and the surrounding community. Throughout the project, I applied my UX design skills to ensure that the mural not only met the aesthetic requirements but also provided an engaging and memorable experience for viewers. This ambiguous and creatively-driven project challenged me to think outside the box, take risks, and exercise my artistic talents to their fullest potential. I am immensely proud of the Heyday Mural project, and it has further fueled my passion for creating meaningful and impactful experiences through design.
